We recognize that health promotion isn't just about reading websites and leaflets, which is why we go to the places where gay & bisexual men socialize, cruise, or access services to talk to them about what we offer, issues they may have, or things that are currently affecting our community.
This approach was born out of the "AIDS crisis" of the 1980's and 90's where gay men needed access to good health information and advice, in a place that was accessible and comfortable to them - this approach is widely recognized as one of the key things that reduced the initial impact of HIV/AIDS at that time.
Whilst times have changed somewhat since then, HIV and sexual health is still an important issue in our community (and in recent years, infection rates have risen), along with other wider health issues that may affect us.
We believe that giving men good information and the chance to talk to a trained worker is vital to health promotion and HIV prevention.
Healthy Gay Cornwall visits cruising sites, lay-by's and gay/gay friendly venues around Cornwall providing free sexual health resources, condom and lube packs and other relevant materials to gay/bisexual men and men who have sex with men (MSM).
Healthy Gay Cornwall are on hand for people to talk to about sexual health, sexuality, signposting to other services and referrals if needed.
