What is Trans?
The term Trans (or Transgender) is used to refer to someone who identifies as a sex or gender that is different to the one they were assigned at birth.
Trans (or Transgender) is an umbrella term that actually incorporates several different gender identities. There are a wide range of terms that people use to identify themselves as everyone identifies and expresses themselves differently, and this list continues to grow.
Some people are born with the body of one sex and the mind of another. Some people may then choose to take hormones and have surgery to transition from one gender presentation to living full time with another. Others may choose only some of those options or find different ways to express their gender.
Gender is not the same as sexuality; gender is how you feel whereas sexuality is about whom you are attracted to.
